This IPTV Wire news report highlights two new Pirate IPTV Arrests.
The dominoes of IPTV services continue to fall as just a few days ago we saw the arrests of three individuals in the UK for copyright infringement.
However, this time it was two suspects who were arrested for involvement in a pirate IPTV operation with the help of the LaLiga Spanish football league.
According to reports, LaLiga has been investigating two individuals that were eventually arrested by Spain’s National Police on Monday, April 4th.
While the name of the IPTV service was not disclosed, these two individuals were arrested on suspicion of “illegally selling access to premium audiovisual content distributed via the Internet and satellite.”
It was estimated that gross revenues generated from these pirate IPTV suspects exceeded €87,500 (US$95,400).
In the official police statement, the Spanish National Police said the following:
“They have been arrested for crimes against intellectual property, against conditional television broadcasting services, and electric power fraud. They had a high degree of technological specialization. To carry out their illicit activities they used a sophisticated infrastructure to provide services to their clients. It is estimated that the economic damage caused to the owners of the distributed multimedia content amounts to more than €87,500.”
This isn’t the first time the LaLiga Spanish football league has dealt with streaming piracy and illegal IPTV operations.
Some may remember LaLiga’s involvement in the shutdown of Mobdro, which was one of the most popular streaming apps in the world prior to its demise.
Fast forward to 2022 and LaLiga is continuing to prioritize its efforts to combat streaming piracy.
A recent press release from LaLiga website noted its new partnership with CEDRO (Spanish Reproduction Rights Centre).
The CEDRO organization is a group of publishers who “oversee the protection and collective management of intellectual property rights.”
Jorge Corrales, CEO of CEDRO, commented the following about the new partnership with LaLiga:
“This agreement continues the effort that we have been making in recent years to ensure that our network is a safe space for written culture. Thanks to the information provided by LaLiga Content Protection, we will be able to promote the blocking of more domains where the works of our partners are pirated. Something that, without a doubt, will help to make the work of authors and editors more sustainable.”
Ultimately, it seems LaLiga has prioritized its anti-piracy efforts and will continue to crack down on rampant pirate IPTV operations.
